چکیده

The pharmaceutical excipients used for oral dosage form have been traditionally assumed as being inert. However, recent studies have shown that they can interact with the active drug ingredient, affecting its dissolution, absorption and bioavailability. Beyond the dosage form necessities, excipients are required to perform important and specific technological functions, particularly in the case of solid dosage forms. As a consequence, their characterisation must go beyond the simple tests for identity, purity and strength as prescribed in general by the Pharmacopoeia monographs.Hence an attempt was made to find out the effect of the most frequently used excipient talc on chemically induced hepatocarcinogenesis (HCC) in Wistar rats with assessment of a marketed anticancer drug Methotrexate (MTX).

Targeted promoter editing for rice resistance to Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae reveals differential activities for SWEET14‐inducing TAL effectors

As a key virulence strategy to cause bacterial leaf blight, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) injects into the plant cell DNA-binding proteins called transcription activator-like effectors (TALEs) that bind to effector-binding elements (EBEs) in a sequence-specific manner, resulting in host gene induction. TALEs AvrXa7, PthXo3, TalC and Tal5, found in geographically distant Xoo strains, all t...

Genetic polymorphisms in the promoter region of catalase gene, creates new potential PAX-6 and STAT4 response elements

Catalase (CAT, OMIM: 115500) is an endogenous antioxidant enzyme and genetic variations in the regulatory regions of the CAT gene may alter the CAT enzyme activity and subsequently may alter the risk of oxidative stress related disease. In this study, potential influence(s) of the A-21T (rs7943316) and C-262T (rs1001179) genetic polymorphisms in the CAT promoter region, using the ALGGEN-PROMO.v...

Gene Expression under F8 Promoter Driving In Mouse Hepatoma Cells: A Step towards Gene Therapy of Hemophilia

Background and Objectives: Significant progress has been made in treatment of hemophilia. Ex-vivo gene therapy is going popular due to the capability of this method in using isogenic cells for genetic manipulation and reintroducing them into same host after proliferation. Most gene therapy techniques use viral vectors, which usually harbor a strong and non-specific promoter (e...

Investigating the effects of particle size and dosage of talc nanoparticles as a novel solid collector in quartz flotation

In this study, hydrophobic talc nanoparticles were applied as a novel class of solid flotation collector. The aim of this work was to understand the effect of talc nanoparticles size and dosage on the quartz flotation recovery. X-ray analysis, dynamic light scattering, and scanning electron microscopy were conducted. Flotation tests were performed in modified a Hallimond flotation cell. The Zet...

Lung cancer risk and talc not containing asbestiform fibres: a review of the epidemiological evidence.

A literature search was done and all epidemiological cancer studies mentioning talc as a risk factor were selected. The talc exposed populations were divided into three groups: (1) populations in which no other occupational carcinogen was mentioned (only talc millers satisfied this criterion); (2) populations of talc miners exposed to talc, quartz, and/or radon; and (3) other industrial populat...
